Recyclotron: A Manhattan ride for a healthy planet

As with much of his practice, Vačkář’s ride intended to emphasize the urgency of environmental consciousness and the ways in which such an awareness can be achieved through something as simple as a bike ride. Following the ride, the artist produce a small edition of posters featuring the poems composed and recited by participants during the ride.

Adam Vačkář was born in Prague, in 1979. Vačkář’s work focuses on the development of new materialism caused by production for mass society; the devastation caused by industrialization; technologies of mass production and distribution; the transformation of living tissue into a plastic medium; and the transformation of landscapes. He is a graduate of the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts, in Paris, and was later an artist-in-residence at the Palais de Tokyo. His work has been exhibited at the Centre Pompidou, Centre Pompidou Metz, Palais de Tokyo, Bucharest Triennial, Prague Triennial, City Gallery Prague, National Gallery in Prague, Art Basel -Statements and Film, Cologne Kunstverein, Museum Morsbroich, among others.
