LES Studio Program [NYSCA FY22]

Location

LES Studio Program Resident Studio inside The Clemente (LES, NYC)

Open Studios 2021

In January 2021, Artists Alliance co-presented the 24th annual Open Studios with The Clemente supporting over 50 artists and organizations. Along with four days of virtual programming–artist talks, video-based work, live and recorded performances–AAI organized PSOS21 with Clemente residents. The installation of banners featured resident work that wrapped the fence surrounding the studio building, bringing the residents’ studios outside to the community.

2021 LES Studio Program residents Mo Kong, TJ Shin, and Ani Liu were among the contributors.

Resident Work Produced in the LES Studio Program

Kanad Chakrabarti
calling@sweeneyshoal
On view November 6 through December 19, 2020
Cuchifritos Gallery (LES, NYC)

calling@sweeneyshoal was a multidisciplinary exhibition that included video, sculpture, and a microsite created by LES Studio Program resident and Queens-based artist Kanad Chakrabati in response to contemporary political unrest, climate change, nuclear colonialism, and COVID-19. Investigating the digitalization of our world through the use of non-human intelligence software, Chakrabati alluded to a post-human existence and considered the constraints of the pandemic, institutional and exhibition-related, on the practice of art-making itself.

Exhibition documentation

Joseph Buckey
Cousin Table
On view January 10 through February 16, 2020
Cuchifritos Gallery (LES, NYC)

Cousin Table featured new sculptural works by LES Studio Program resident and Brooklyn-based artist Joseph Buckley. These works took a diverse array of topics and concerns as their starting points: the temperature of our politics, sleep paralysis, and fantasies of escapism.

Exhibition documentation of work developed while in residency with the LES Studio Program in 2019 that led to Buckley being awarded the 2021 Jerome Hill Artist Fellowship; local students visit Cuchifritos Gallery.
