“At Cuchifritos, my project was inspired by the stalls and merchandise piles which surround the gallery, as well as the architectural features of Essex Street Market. I studied the formal qualities and spatial patterns of both the gallery and the surrounding area, and the aesthetic decisions and practical concerns of the vendors who create their own types of exhibits.”

Choi’s installation work is about oneself adjusting to a new world. Starting with a process of discovering the solid element of oneself, it is a continuous research of evolution, adaptation and transformation. She materializes her struggles against her disorientation of attempting to locate herself in an alien environment and cultural frustration in various mixed media. She is still in the process of adapting herself as a psychological, rational, emotional, philosophical, social, cultural, political, linguistic, and artistic hybrid and attempts to fuse her pieces together.
